Blythe's Wisdom

Hey everyone! This week has probably been my best week in the MTC so far. I feel like I'm really settling into things and starting to learn Mandarin so that's good. I've also been getting super tan from being outside so much so that's been way good. - We have an elder in our district named Elder Godfrey who is super funny. Everyone either calls him Godfrey, Dogfrey, or Rigby (he's from Rigby Idaho). He keeps dropping the most hilarious comments out of nowhere and it's making my day. For example were just talking one night before going to bed and there was a moment where no one talked for a good 2 minutes, and he just chimes right in and says "You know guys sometimes we do the right thing for the wrong reason" he then proceeded to talk about how he just loved to fight people but he doesn't do it in a noble manner most of the time. - We helped escort all of the new elders into the MTC this week and it was such a good time. We have an elder in our district from Australia that is one of the funniest dudes out there and he kept doing the most horrendous accents and telling everyone he was from "Arem." Great times. - Class has been going well and I'm starting to be able to understand a lot of what people are saying by piecing together the words I know and just figuring it out, but this week these Chinese sister missionaries asked me how my class was by saying "Ni de Shangke hao ma?" but I heard "Ni de ShanKa hao ma?" which means are your flashcards good? I then proceeded to explain how I had made like 300 flashcards and how it was going super well and they just thought I was the dumbest person for a solid 5 minutes. - On Saturday I spontaneously combusted into a bloody nose in the middle of talking onto my white tie, but I was able to get it all out so that's good. - Elder Blyth shared an incredible quote just by accident. "You can't make memories when it's all remember this or remember that." That really stuck with me because I suck at change, but when he said that to me something really clicked. I love that because it pretty much just means move on and try to make some more awesome memories rather than just stew on the old ones. - Spiritual thought: We were watching a devotional and we were watching clips from Elder Bednar about how we know whether or not it's just our thoughts or whether it is the spirit talking to us, and he practically just said "stop worrying about it." He said do the good things that pop into your mind whether or not they are from the spirit or not. He also said that we will often get spiritual impressions that we don't even know are spiritual impressions, but we can get them by just being worthy to have the spirit with us. I was able to think back on times when I was in the right place doing the right thing at the right time to help someone, and it made me think that these times were led by the spirit even though we don't know it. Anyways I love you all and I'd love to hear from you! - Elder Horsley
