Cooking it to the travel office

This email will again be short. But realistically who doesn't just skip to the pictures anyways. This is my first week in Calgary so I feel like I'll actually have stuff to talk about! This week started off pretty normal at the MTC, but on Wednesday night we packed everything up and woke up at 2:45AM and cooked it to the travel office. We said goodbye to everyone which was tough cause I made such awesome friends at the MTC, but then most of us in the district started making our way to Canada, Boston, New York, Taiwan, New Zealand, and HongKong. All of us speaking mandarin. I was flying alone to Canada which was fun, but I also got to see some Lawson's on the flight. So awesome to see them we've been neighbors for like 13ish years. When I landed in Canada I made it through customs pretty quickly and got greater by the AP's, and ever since then it's been the Missionary life. On the ride to the place where we were staying I helped chime in with my intermediate beginner chinese and teach this guy named Sunny. It was awesome to help teach and at the end of the lesson the elders asked him who they wanted to baptize him, and he said anyone could, so Elder Horsley got his first baptism (Elder Wu would be proud). Hard in the paint on the xilis. points if interest: Baptized sunny Ward is literally half mandarin half English with a bunch of translators Bore testimony in church in Chinese People love to feed us Went to louie and Lisa's house. Mission is legit mostly English Potluck and meeting members after the baptism Jack ripper escape room had me losing it. (Literally hate scary stuff more than anything and they had actors chasing after you and stuff.) It was already planned before I came. Talked to a metanite. Got a crazy Kanker and incredible amounts of mosquito bites. Spiritual thought for the week: In Alma 43:45 it talks about the Nephites being "inspired for a better cause… they were fighting for their homes and their liberties and their wives and their children, and their all, yea, for their rites of worship and their church." I loved this because it talks about the Nephites fighting for a better cause than power or monarchy, and I liked this because it reminds us of what is important in life. I also loved this because it helps me know what to focus and put effort into in my own life. Anyways love you all, and love reading anything you send me. Elder Horsley (蝙蝠侠）

Just to start off the direct translation of 胖 means fat in Chinese, but it's a word used to describe anyone who is not skinny, so I am now 胖. I GOT MY TRAVEL PLANS! So anyways I fly to Canada on Thursday morning at 4:07 AM by myself, and I'm so excited. I have loved the MTC though. The people I met here have been awesome, and the amount of stuff I learned here about the gospel and Chinese has been awesome. The MTC will always have awesome memories associated with it in my mind. Also I will miss Elder Palmer a lot. He is such a cool dude, and my next companion is going to have a lot to live up too. This week me and some people in the district decided we were going to do push-ups for every word we miss out of our goal for the week. We've been doing 150 words per week with the tones and if we don't get them right, that's three pushups. Anyways I did 102 pushups on Tuesday, but this week I will do none. Provo MTC Week 1

Hey everyone this is my first week in the MTC and it's been good so far! I love my district and my companions so it has been super good to see these guys in person. Monday and Tuesday: These days were pretty fun because they were my last 2 days in the home MTC, and they were P-day and a travel day so I got to do a ton of fun stuff with my family before I left. I went golfing with my dad and Calder and we all played pretty bad but it was still super fun. We also went to Maize tacos with some uncles and cousin-uncles for the last time to say goodbye, and that was sad, but it was great to be with everyone who came. Wednesday: Showed up to the MTC and got dropped off which was pretty brutal. It was super sad to say goodbye to everyone. I got to meet my district and branch though and they are all super fun. Hey everyone! This week has probably been my best week in the MTC so far. I feel like I'm really settling into things and starting to learn Mandarin so that's good. I've also been getting super tan from being outside so much so that's been way good. - We have an elder in our district named Elder Godfrey who is super funny. Everyone either calls him Godfrey, Dogfrey, or Rigby (he's from Rigby Idaho). He keeps dropping the most hilarious comments out of nowhere and it's making my day. For example were just talking one night before going to bed and there was a moment where no one talked for a good 2 minutes, and he just chimes right in and says "You know guys sometimes we do the right thing for the wrong reason" he then proceeded to talk about how he just loved to fight people but he doesn't do it in a noble manner most of the time. - We helped escort all of the new elders into the MTC this week and it was such a good time.
