I've personally every single mother in Calgary

Hello everyone, another splendid week out here in Canada so I’ll just jump right into it. Road Rage. I feel like I’m turning into my older brother before he went on his mission. As you might have guessed he took the classic missionary route where you get better on being patient and charitable to others during his mission. This naturally would translate to driving. I for one have gone completely backwards. I rarely got mad at a car back at home but I am now single handedly insulting every old lady, single mother, and 16 year old kid in the entire city. I have such a way with words that really helps me insult not only their driving, but also them on a personal level. For real though this week was pretty solid. We got Oscar who doesn’t know a lick of Chinese and is from Mexico to join in on our lesson completely in Chinese. I had some seagulls decide the perfect time to start yelling at the top of their lungs is the second I start calling someone in Chinese. This is fun because my Chinese is bad and on top of seagull noises and me not being able to stop laughing it might as well be Tagalog. Had some nice encounters with some homeless guys this week. One at Wendys and one downtown, but both didn’t like me and were higher than the Calgary tower. And finally we were able to teach our friend in a baseball dugout. This week our friend Lucia had us over for dinner, and it was super fun. We pull up with our friends the Salmons, who don’t know any Chinese at all (Lucia doesn’t know that much English) and she had made some delicacies. Now before we go into it, I just have to explain that the Salmons are in their 70’s and they have possibly never had authentic Chinese food before. It made my day to see Sister Salmon try to eat hollowed out mushrooms with oil in it, and an entire fish that was pretty much just caught, thrown in boiling oil, and served to us to try to eat with only chopsticks. I was thinking about my mom the whole time and how funny it would be if she were there because there was no way for Sister Salmon to decline because she didn’t want to be rude and didn’t know any Chinese, and I’m assuming these two would have similar reactions to the food. So shout out to Catherine. Later they came out with watermelon for Dessert. This week I’ve been dummy sick. It’s actually been the worst. We thought I might have Covid, so I took a Covid test and it came out positive. So for about 15 minutes we were all sulking and being sad, so I decided to take one more to hope my first test was a false positive. Well good news, in the middle of my second test, we looked at the chart that showed what lines meant positive and what meant negative. And it turns out, we were just holding the test upside down. I’m actually negative so hallelujah. So because we didn’t have Covid we decided to go to the Asian Market and pass out free english class fliers but I still felt the worst. I probably just didn’t drink enough water. But I decided I just needed to buy some steam buns as any rational person would. So for the rest of the day I was just walking around calgary with my assortment of steam buns and chopsticks just chowing down. Final thing, this is a hefty email but I haven’t written anything in a while so I’m actually not really sorry. I taught Elder’s quorum in church in Chinese and it actually went pretty good. I taught about the importance of general conference and how we really can use it to help answer our questions. Good news is, I have like a superpower at church. Literally every time I teach, give a talk, or have anything to do at church. The amount of stuff that goes overtime and cuts into my time is unreal. Like I’m not joking when I say I started teaching at 1:40 and finished at 2:00. It was supposed to be like 50 minutes long. Pretty baller stuff. For my spiritual thought though I just want to challenge you all to really prepare for general conference and go in with a genuine question you want answered. God loves effort, and so I just want to challenge you to find a way to put in extra effort to show him you really want to learn something from this general conference. I love you all and hope you have a good week. Also happy birthday to Calder Horsley and Spencer Condie. Two absolute studs. - Elder Horsley
