City Officials
Hello everyone, I'm going to try and write one of these every week now for the rest of my mission, so we're going to hit a solid email 180 to finish my mission off.
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse everytime I bring up the weather up here because I talk about it all the time, but it really has a huge effect on everything we do. It also has to be nearly the least exciting topic to talk about, but this week was pretty consistently -15 or -20 celsius. Although, other than this week, it's been a light winter. On the other hand, the upside to the weather is that the police are finally getting off our tails because they don't want to be outside. I was informed by President and Sister Barth this week that I have about 50% of all reported "getting kicked off the train station" moments in the mission in the last little while. They told me I needed to stop cooking so hard directly in front of the city officials. The church is getting lawyers involved now because the Peace Officers keep kicking us off the train stations so often. Hopefully all is well soon🙏
We had an awesome lesson with our friend Sean this past week. He has been having a difficult time getting work off due to the nature of his job and financial stresses going on, so we've been praying for miracles to happen in his life. We happened to have a lesson where we talked about the Lord's ability and willingness to work miracles in our life, and how when God has told us something is right, when something is true for us, he will provide a way for us to accomplish that very thing. This is true with Moses and the Israelites leaving Egypt, the Sons of Mosiah and Alma in their missionary efforts to the Lamanites, and our own lives. When our revelation from heaven faces turbulence, we don't just bail. If it's right when we received our answer, some rough times don't just mean it must be wrong now. Our member Luke joined who had extremely relevant experiences, and it was exactly what our friend needed.
Other fun stuff
- I had my first full day with a native speaking only Chinese. It was a blast. I love Chinese.
- Interviews and advice with President is always one of my favorite times of the transfer
- Lots of great cold finding
- Church was quite spiritual this week
- My companion has inspired me to start eating Veggies
- Hike with my companion last week in the cold
I've recently found a lot of strength in 1 Timothy 4:12
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
A common theme that has been impressed upon me ever since my time with Elder Niutupuivaha is "becoming the man the Lord needs me to become." The apostles and prophets are exemplary "examples of the believers" because they pattern their life after the only perfect example himself. I hope and pray I can better exemplify the example Jesus Christ set in my word, conversation, charity, spirit, faith, and purity.
