Three immortal souls and seven mortal forms
A while back there I said I would try to write an email every week for the rest of my mission. That went pretty bu hao but I can assure you the last transfer of my mission was wonderful. I love it here and I love the work that we have been called to do.
Yesterday was my last talk in church in the mandarin ward and it was such a meaningful way to end these 2 years here. I'm a Mandarin Elder here in Calgary, and we only have 1 Mandarin ward and 6 elders who are serving in the mandarin ward at one time. Because of that, we stay in the same ward for a large part of our mission and usually only leave to serve in an English speaking ward for a couple of transfers. I've been in this ward for 11 transfers (15+ months) and so I pretty much know every single member and friend who has been taught here for the last 2 years. We were able to pack church for sunday with elder Tang and I going home, so it was great to see so many friends there and reflect on everything that has happened with all of them during this time.
Random
- Elder Lim and I made a whip out of belts, charging cords, shoelaces, a bookmark, tape, and floss. We got a crack out of it too.
- Hecka lessons during my last week before I go home made it super special
- Long blok
- After nearly 2 years of no hotpot, I had it twice this week
- I got Hongbao from seavan and she wants me to date her daughter
- Elise taught me about our 三魂七魄 (three immortal souls and seven mortal forms) as well as the rituals to return said souls and forms to the body after traumatic experience (comas, car crashes, falling out of trees)
- The above experience happened with Elder Pace on exchanges and blessed elder pace sat through the whole 20 minute monologue smiling and nodding like a champ
- Jeff took us out to get vegan ramen and the customers at Nan's Noodle House were eyeing us down the whole time 👀 (the vegans didnt like us)
- We got hand delivered an entire brisket by Chastity and Desiree. Absolute angels in the scullery
- I formally got gifted my billioneth book mark. I have more bookmarks then books. If you want a panda themed book mark lmk
- Lao Gan Ma has been in the brain this week more than you can imagine
- Jeffy gave me an traditional chiness flute looking stick called a 葫芦丝
- In the past couple of weeks our friends ronnie 🇭🇰, Irene 🇹🇼, and Irene 🇨🇳 got baptized. There are all amazing and I'm so thankful I got to be here and experience part of their conversion with them.
I cant get across what my mission meant to me in just one email but I will do my best. I have absolutely loved my past two years here in Calgary. I haven't loved in because it has been sunshine and butterflies the entire time, but because the Canada Calgary mission is where I came to trust my savior. I am eternally indebted to the savior for all I have experienced here in Calgary. I love Him and I echo the words of Moroni saying "I, (Elder Horsley), will not deny the Christ;" If you want to hear my homecoming talk text Catherine Horsley 801-503-8334 (I don't know when we start)
If your a missionary please throw mckay.horsley@gmail.com on your email list. If not, text me at 801-641-0009. See ya'll in a couple days🫡
Love you all so much!🙏
- Elder Horsley
